ENSEMBLE - VOX
Vox
Æterna is a versatile group of soloists specializing in
solo-vocal and vocal-chamber music. While much of the
repertoire includes music from
late-Renaissance and early-Baroque the ensemble also strives to
experiment with electronics, both in arrangements or
manipulations of extant works, and also in original
compositions. An international group
involving musicians from around the world, the members of Vox
Æterna frequently perform with the top music ensembles in
Europe and North America.
In addition to the assembled programmes here, we also enjoy
presenting well-known masterpieces, especially in light of much
recent research that proves much of this repertoire was sung by
solo voices. Such works include the operas of Monteverdi and
Purcell, and the numerous cantatas, oratorios, and motets of J.
S. Bach.
ENSEMBLE -
CORPUS
In
recent years Kevin Skelton has expanded the artistic goals of
Vox
Æterna to include the exploration of combing classical singing
and dancing in live performance.
Our primary
means to communicate what we think and express what we feel
takes place through the sounds and movements of our bodies, both
internal (voice) and external (posture/movement). If this be
true, then song and dance can easily be seen as heightened forms
of communication and expression, which explains why they have
been such important artistic disciplines historically.
It is really
nothing new to seek to combine the internal and external
expressions of the body – but the research and creation I am
currently interested in tries to discover not only how far this
union can go, but also to discover a new level/possibility for
vocal expression. Through combining singing and dancing I am
experimenting with new contexts for the interpretation of
classical vocal music where new or unconventional physical
demands lead to highly expressive and appropriate vocal sounds
even if they seem flawed from a more traditional musical, vocal,
and/or technical aesthetic.
